 Spring 2010 Between April 1st 2009 and the close of Spring '10 semester, the Alpha Chapter contributed 1534 service hours, averaging 9.7 hours per each chapter member. In addition, they donated $20,661.89 to philanthropic causes, namely St. Rita's School for the Deaf in Cincinnati. Puttin' on the Hits was another huge success! Besides participating in numerous Greek events on Miami's campus, the chapter is proud that they achieved 100% involvement, meaning every member of the chapter is recognized for participating in at least one other, non-Greek organization! Some of these organizations include Adopt-A-School, Honors Societies, America Reads, Nourish International, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. In January, the chapter welcomed 48 new members! After an exciting new member period, they welcomed these members as initiates, increasing the total number of Alpha initiates to 2,879 since 1902! This was the 48th consecutive year the chapter reached quota and they were recognized at National Convention in the summer. Also at Convention, the chapter received the Betty Heusch Agler President's Award for outstanding achievement and handling an unusual/critical situation in an exemplary manner! Fall 2009 The Alpha Chapter has had a very busy and exciting fall semester! The women enjoyed Greek Week in September, several sisterhoods and socials throughout the fall, Dad's Weekend in early November and fall semi-formal in December. The last chapter meeting for the semester is December 6. The chapter has elected new officers and Jessy Williams is the new president! Christina Edwards, Educational Leadership Consultant, will visit Alpha the second week of December and assist with the transition of the new officers. The chapter is also in final preparation for recruitment. It will begin Wednesday, January 6, 2010 and end on Sunday, January 17, 2010. The annual philanthropy, Puttin on the Hits, is scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 7:00pm at Millett Hall. We would love to have area alumnae in attendance! Spring 2009 The spring philanthropy, Puttin' on the Hits, was another huge success! The chapter raised over $14,000 for St. Rita's School for the Deaf in Cincinnati, Ohio. The children from the school performed and were accompanied to Oxford by parents and administrators from the school. One of the administrators served as a judge for the event. It's an amazing relationship the chapter has developed with St. Rita's. The Miami Greek community looks forward to seeing them perform each year. Several thousand Miami students were in attendance at the event and the chapter hosted with great enthusiasm! |
